Nebelung History history

The name "Nebelung" means "Creature of the mist" in German. The Nebelung is a very new breed and was started in the 1980's when a Russian Blue was crossed with a female with long hair. The resulting kittens were the first Nebelungs. The first Nebelungs that were registered were called "Seigfried" and "Brunhilde". After Siegfried and Brunhilde had their first litter of kittens, an application was made to have the breed officially recognized by The International Cat Association. In 1987, the Nebelung was accepted by the TICA as a longhaired Russian Blue. In 1990, the Nebelung was recognized as a breed by the Traditional Cat Association. Although the Nebelung is gaining popularity, it is still not very well known.
